Periodontics

Periodontics is the dental specialty focused on the supporting structures of the teeth, specifically the gums and underlying bone. It involves the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of inflammatory conditions like gingivitis and periodontitis to prevent tooth loss.

Scaling and Root Planing (SRP)  is a specialized ‘deep cleaning’ designed to treat active periodontal disease, which regular cleanings cannot fix. Unlike a standard prophy ( regular cleaning), this procedure is for deeper pocket depth, and goes below the gumline to remove bacteria, plaque, and tartar from the tooth roots. By smoothing these roots, we can help your gum tissue reattach, reduce deep pockets, and halt/ minimize the progression of bone loss, ultimately protecting your tooth from early loss.

Laser Treatment for gums, or laser periodontics, uses a focused beam of light energy to remove diseased tissue and kill bacteria within periodontal pockets. This modern alternative to traditional surgery allows for precise targeting of infected areas while leaving healthy tissue intact, often eliminating the need for scalpels or sutures.

Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure that recontours the gum line and underlying bone to expose more of a tooth’s natural structure. It is typically performed to provide a stable foundation for a dental crown when a tooth is broken or decayed below the gum line.

A gingivectomy is a surgical procedure involving the removal of a portion of the gum tissue (gingiva). It is typically performed to eliminate deep pockets caused by periodontal disease or to reduce overgrown tissue resulting from medication or hormonal changes.

Gingivoplasty is a surgical procedure used to reshape and contour healthy gum tissue for a more natural or symmetrical appearance. While it can follow a gingivectomy, its primary focus is aesthetic refinement and thinning out thickened gum margins to make them easier to clean.
